Manu was a humble clerk at Ajmer Jail under British Rule when he had the chance encounter with Mahatma Gandhi who spoke about Non-Cooperation Movement and deeply influenced Manu, who next day proceeded to resign from his job under British Government, despite being the sole bread winner for his family of 9 children and that of his brother's with equally large number. His British jailor soon talked Manu out of it but such was the power and influence of Gandhi! As youngest of his clan, Hari was and remained all throughout a people's person - always helping to a fault, simple, full of laughter and life! He cleared one of the toughest engineering exams and graduated with honors as a Civil Engineer from Indian Institute of Technology, at Kharagpur.
